What are wave starts?

Wave starts, introduced at the Midsummer Challenge – Võsu in 2018, received the Running Innovation Award 2019.
Their purpose is to reduce congestion in the start area. This allows every participant to run at their own pace right from the beginning. Elite athletes and recreational joggers may line up together without interfering with one another. However, slower participants are kindly asked not to start in the first waves.

Timing begins when crossing the start mats, and wave intervals ensure the event can take place without disturbing other city pedestrians. Participants can smoothly overtake families with strollers or couples walking hand-in-hand.
